Find Your Freedom Series Episode Fifteen: A Key Success Strategy for Positive Change

Hello magnificent community and welcome to my podcast here at michellebarr.com. I'm so excited to invite you before we get started here and dive right in to go to my website, I've given it a facelift. I've put a lot of new content on it that you can see including some of these media appearances I've been doing on Fox News as their Spiritual Life Coach. So take a look and check that out. It also gives you the opportunity to connect with me and to get a digital copy of my book Manifesting On purpose for free as my gift to you, michellebarr.com.

Today we are getting close to finishing up this Find your Freedom series, and then we will be moving on to the next new training series that I get inspired to bring you. Today I want to talk about something that did not come naturally to me. It's something that still doesn't come naturally to me but I have built it as a habit and a new pattern for success. It is absolutely a key success strategy and that is, consistency equals success.

Consistency is absolutely one of the key success strategies to apply to any area of your life where you are seeking positive change. It is also something I resisted for a very long time. I am a spontaneous soul. I thrive in environments that offer variety. In fact, in my jobs I never while working for other people stayed in jobs very long, and I had to have a lot of daily variety in my work. I do not live the same day over and over again.

So I have had to put in place some consistent positive habits and success strategies to help me and support me. I love the unexpected. I was a crisis and trauma specialist and worked in that field for many years. I'm hardwired that way. What I didn't like was routine, structure, sameness of any kind. So I created my business and my life to still feed me in this way and give me a lot of this. But then I apply the value of consistency to a business that was perplexing me and frustrating me and Voila,  the magic ingredient, you just can't deny it without consistency.

You will eventually falter in even your best efforts. Consistency equals success. Ask any business building or growth and development specialist in the industry. I tell my clients a lot as I'm working with them on what they're willing to do as they're starting to get out there in the marketplace and in the world and really build their platform and build their personality brand.

Really in anything that you're wanting to build and get a foothold that it first is about consistency over quantity as you're working toward greater exposure or greater whatever it is that you're building.

I found quite a few quotes when I googled the subject and what I came across was very interesting. There it is a place where consistency serves you and a place where consistency keeps you stuck. I really want you to get that there's a place where consistency serves you and a place where consistency can keep you stuck. What works for me is to apply consistency to my business and my life in a very purposeful way. While at the same time remaining fluid and flexible. This is another thing I teach my clients all the time because I work with energy. I work in the field.

I work with possibility and opportunity and I do the energetic work first so I always have a plan.  I know my purpose, but I also remain fluid and flexible so that I can work with what is showing up and with the energy and my own energy. When I'm clear on what is important and what is not, I am able to make beneficial decisions in every moment.

For instance, Benjamin Disraeli said the secret of success is consistency of purpose. That's a great one. You want to be really clear on your purpose for doing anything and my business and my life continued to grow the more that I revisited my purpose. Then you have a touch stone because in every moment you have a choice point and everything is moving you either toward or away from what you want and what you desire. My purpose keeps me aligned and on course. You want to be really clear on your purpose for doing anything.

Purpose is a common thread that runs through the tapestry of your life, holding it all together in a meaningful way. Your soul came here with a purpose. This lifetime has a purpose. This is something else I work with my clients on a lot when they're flailing about and getting battered around by every breeze and the energy of other people and they're second guessing and self doubting we've got to go back to purpose and anchoring in if you are serving clients or customers you want to be consistent in your communication with them and your service to them. If you're dissatisfied with any area of your life, look closely at what you are consistently doing and not doing.

This will tell you what is keeping you from having what you want. What are you doing that is not in alignment, not moving you toward what you say you want, need and desire. What are you doing and what are you not doing? You may have heard the quote that it takes 20 years to become an overnight success.

Eddie Cantor said it and there is much truth in this. Aristotle said we are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act but a habit and that still holds true today. I've always been very committed to excellence. In fact, when I was having a spiritual assessment, I was with one of my mentors. She was training me specifically in my intuition and in my mediumship when I was developing that professionally. At the end of working with her for a year, she said you know, you can have a nice little business with this right now.

But I know you and I know that you strive for excellence and I know that you will continue to grow and develop and that is true and I bring that to my work to serve you every day. I bring it to my work in helping my clients because she was right and she saw that in me and she read that in my energy that I strive for excellence. I want excellence. I want to be serving at my highest and best and as my business grows and evolves. I personally grow and evolve.

Cultivating persistence and establishing consistency will put you on track to the personal success you desire. Before you get into the daily doing that is required, do some inner work around clarity of your purpose. What have you here to do? What nudges you , what drives you? What lights you up? What keeps you up at night?  What do you keep noticing out in the world that you keep saying somebody ought to? Guess what? That somebody might just be you. That has happened to me more than once in my life and when I turn that around on my clients, they get a big Aha often.

Now envision what you want your life to look like, what you want each day to look like down to the details and really anchor your purpose into that.

This is where you want to began. What kind of life are you wanting to create for yourself? What is your purpose? And how can you express it in a way that support you in living this life that you desire and deserve? Now I want you to connect with your why. This is what helps you be persistent and consistent no matter what.

Until I had a big enough why and really was connected to and I gave up and I gave in more than I kept going. Now nothing throws me off track for very long. I do not get distracted and I do not get derailed.

My coach's request to you. Explore these things now. Vision, purpose, Why.  Really spend time with them? Then take honest inventory of what needs to be consistently happening and whether it is or isn't. Set some new intentions. Make a decision about something you are going to consistently do for the next 30 days and see what happens.

Here's something to really recognize with all that too as you're setting intentions, as you're starting to bring some consistency. I've done this myself so it may be valuable to you all go okay, I'm all in. You know, we have to know ourselves. We have to know our nature.

I'm all in. Here's all the things I'm going to do and I'll get my planner and I'll write, drink all my water, take all my supplements, take my walks every day, do my meditation, work on my business on and on and on. Then I go in. I'm trying to have that checklist. Some of you will have a calendar or some kind of worksheet you work off of that actually has you do all that and what I found was it's a lot of things to try to become consistent on. Some people will be able to do it.

You have to know how they work best but it's really good to anchor something. For instance, I was very committed to drinking my water. Then I realized every day oh hours would go by if I had my water how much water by hand. I haven't had enough water. I feel very dehydrated. In the work I do I've got to keep my minerals in balance and I gotta stay hydrated.

So the first thing I anchored in and now I do it every single morning. I love to have my morning tea. I will sit down and have time to have my tea. I've had this conversation with some of my friends. I don't get people that will grab their morning coffee and they'll walk around and then they'll set it down and then they'll reheat it and then they're still working on it then it's cold and they throw it out and get more.

This is something for me that's a kind of a ritual and something I give myself. I make time to have my tea and I don't sit down and have it until I have time and then I fully enjoy it. Sometimes I'm watching something or reading a book or doing my work or just thinking about things while I'm drinking my tea.

So one thing that's really helpful when you're setting a new habit or pattern to set yourself up for success is to tie it to something else. So I decided it's not best for my body to start the day off with my big, giant hot mug of tea before I've put enough water in my body and I couldn't even tell from my digestive system. So what I did was I created a success habit where I drink my big glass of water with my electrolyte powder every morning. So you see for me I had to chunk it way down. If I get that first glass in I'm setting myself up for success.

My body gets the electrolytes, the minerals and the water it needs and then the rest of the day I can build on that. I have been able to keep that habit going now for a very long time, much more than tracking and drinking all my water. And once you get that water in or once I get that water in then I'm more apt to be continuing to drink my water. So for me I drink that water and then I brew my mug of tea.

I have other things that I've had to get really consistent about while remaining fluid and flexible. So that was one example of something that supports me in my life and supports me in my work and yet it can appear to be a small thing, but it also sets my mind up for success. Yes, I took care of myself first. I hydrated, I gave myself the minerals and then I gave myself the time to have my mug of tea, to have that time for me and those are two things that I really stick with.

Another thing I do consistently since we're talking about things in the same area, because they're important to me. They may or may not be but again, people who eat at their desk they're spooning their food in at the same time. They're doing other things than their food is cold or it sits there too long, or whatever. It is and then they throw it away and then they're hungry.

I make time to eat and I always plate my food.  I give myself time to sit down and eat my food, to plate my food, to make a meal even if it's a sandwich and some chips and I sit down and I plate my food and I give myself time and again because I enjoy it. I catch up on one of my shows. I read for pleasure during that time. So these are the little things then you move that into the big thing.

You see how it's better for you to pick one and really anchored in rather than have this whole checklist and try to do all of them. Unless that really works for you. You can add on. So then we move into your life and then we move into your business. So those were things that bring me enjoyment. They take care of me and they help support me in the work that I do every day and they add value to my daily life because then I look forward to my cup of tea.

I look forward to my lunch and having that break time even when I worked for other people. I always insisted on having a lunch break where I could walk away from wherever I was working. I wanted a fairly long good lunch break. Not every job allowed that but most of them did. And I insisted on it. Because I also liked a good lunch more than eating a dinner later in the day. So start paying attention in little ways to what you need, want and desire.

Then add those things in then it leads to the other things we're talking about. When I'm talking to my clients. I'm often talking about, okay, you're building your brand, you're building your platform. You've got your social media, your website and your email system. Again, it's only three things but in the beginning it can be really overwhelming and there can be a lot of moving parts.

So start finding what you're willing to do consistently. Does it start with I'm willing to email a newsletter once a month, then I'll add bi weekly emails. Then I'll get to where I'm emailing my list once a week. What about your social media posting and going Facebook Live and doing posts and doing videos and anything else like that that you're doing? What about sending people to your website? So again, you decide one thing at a time that you're willing to do consistently.

You start adding those in. Vision, purpose, why, spend time with them. Take honest inventory of what needs to be consistently happening and then whether it is or isn't. Set some new intentions and see what new consistency you can add to them to support yourself both personally and professionally. Then right now make a decision about something you are going to consistently do for the next 30 days and see what happens then build from that.
